Can you fill out an I-9 electronically?

Employers and employees may choose to complete any or all sections of the form on paper or using a computer, or a combination of both. Forms I-9 obtained from the USCIS website are not considered electronic Forms I-9 under DHS regulations and, therefore, cannot be electronically signed.

Can I-9 verification be done online?

March 20 update: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it will defer the physical presence requirements associated with reviewing Form I-9 documents for employers and workplaces operating completely remotely.

Is the new i-9 form available?

USCIS released a revised version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, on July 17. Download instructions are available on the Form I-9 page. Employers can use this revised version or continue using Form I-9 with a revision date of 11/14/16 N through Sept.

Does the I-9 need to be completed in person?

March 31, 2021 Update. Accordingly, as of April 1, 2021, the requirement that employers inspect employees’ Form I-9 identity and employment eligibility documentation in-person applies only to those employees who physically report to work at a company location on any regular, consistent, or predictable basis.

What do I need for an i9?

Driver’s License

  • ID card issued by federal, state or local government agencies or entities, provided it contains a photograph or information such as name, date of birth, gender, height, eye color and address.
  • School ID card with a photograph.
  • Voter registration card.
  • U.S.military card or draft record.

Is there a new i9 for 2021?

Because of ongoing precautions related to COVID-19, DHS has extended the Form I-9 requirement flexibilities from June 1 to August 31, 2021. Employers must monitor the DHS and ICE’s Workforce Enforcement announcements about when the extensions end and normal operations resume.

Can a family member be an authorized representative for I-9?

An authorized representative can be anyone – even a friend or family member of a new hire – who reviews a new hire’s Form I-9 documents in-person and signs Section 2 of the Form I-9 on behalf of the employer. Consider reviewing these Forms I-9 at the time they are completed.

Do i9s have to be notarized?

The Form I-9 does NOT require a notarial act, therefore you must NOT affix your notarial seal impression on it. You are signing the form in the capacity of Authorized Representative of the verifying employer, so we recommend that you indicate “Authorized Representative” as your title, not “Notary Public.”
