A quieter stretch than Crosby, Formby has plenty of space to spread out, making it feel less touristy. The golden sand seems to go on for miles and high dunes create a dramatic landscape.

Where do you park for Formby beach?

We do have parking facilities at Formby, but these are limited and soon become full at busy times. Lifeboat Road car park: use postcode L37 2EB. Victoria Road car park: use postcode L37 1LJ. We have limited car parking available at Formby with just 270 spaces at Lifeboat Road and 300 at Victoria Road.

What can you see from Formby beach?

When the waves pull back, they can reveal a Mesolithic landscape, footprints of men, women and children, roe and red deer, which are 5,000 years old. You may also spot the prints of aurochs, the long extinct species of cattle.

How much does it cost? If you are a National Trust member, parking is free – just remember to bring your membership card to scan at the machine or speak to one of our team if you’ve left it at home. For non-members, a daily rate of £7.50 applies.

Yes, dogs can go on this beach all year round. It might get busy and crowded where the paths join the beach (although it wasn’t when we were there) but the beach itself is a huge space and it’s quite easy to walk to a quieter part. It’s a great beach for dogs.
