Is more watts better for grow lights?

Is more watts better for grow lights?

The simple answer is: it’s not really about wattage. Wattage is a measurement of electricity consumption, and while it’s helpful to know how much wattage your grow light uses (so you can make a more economical, energy-saving choice) it actually has nothing to do with the amount of energy your plants need to grow.

Is higher lumens better for plants?

Light Brightness and Lumens The more lumens, the brighter and more powerful the light is. Vegetable seedlings and other “full sun” plants require about 2000 to 3000 lumens (at minimum) per square foot of growing space. Or use multiple light fixtures to provide a good canopy of light over a bigger space.

How many lumens does a plant light need?

The best light for a square foot would be between 7000 and 7500 lights per square foot. 2000 lumens per square foot is the minimum lighting requirement for the plant. For the mid-range measurement, it should be 5000 lumens per square foot.

How many lumens does a 600 watt LED produce?

78,000 lumens
The GAU-LTL-600W-LED LED light from Larson Electronics produces 78,000 lumens of high intensity light while drawing only 600 watts at 5 amps from a 120 volt electrical system.

What wattage should my grow lights be?

As a rule of thumb, aim for 20 to 40 watts per square foot. Divide the wattage of your bulb by 20 (such as 400 watts divided by 20 = 20), and then divide the wattage of your bulb by 40 (400 divided by 40 = 10).

Is 5000 lumens too bright for plants?

Generally you want to be within the 3000 to 5000 range to get good plant growth while maintaining cost efficiency. That doesn’t mean you can’t go more or less than that range.

Is 3000K light good for growing?

3000K/4000K (warm) LED spectrums happen to have an ideal amount of blue light, and a good amount of yellow light for growth power. Even though red and infrared are mostly left out, it’s a decent growth spectrum. Plants can sense the % ratio of blue light they receive to determine how to grow.

Is 4000 lumens enough for plants?

Most plant leaves do their best conversion with sunlight between 3,000 and 4,000 lumens per square foot. At a leaf’s peak efficiency of 4,000 lumens per square foot, that leaves an optimal coverage area of 25 square feet—or a 5′ x 5′ footprint—for a 1,000-watt bulb.

How much lumens is too much?

For general space lighting, the U.S. Department of Energy suggests you shop for light that is in the range of 450 to 1,600 lumens per bulb.

How many watts light for seedlings?

Growing seedlings is a great way to jump-start your outdoor garden. One of the challenges to indoor growing is making sure your seedlings get the right amount of light they need to thrive. Seedlings need approximately 32 watts per square foot of growing area for LED grow lights and 100 watts per plant for CFLs.
