What is a toilet diaphragm?

What is a toilet diaphragm?

Diaphragm assemblies regulate pressure inside the valve using a flexible rubber disc (diaphragm) that seals the valve seat after each flush. Diaphragms that becomes worn or warped may either stick in place to prevent flushing or fail to seal so that the toilet keeps running.

How does a cistern diaphragm work?

The Diaphragm is in a relaxed position, holding the natural shape it is moulded to, and all of it is under mains pressure from above which presses the centre of the Diaphragm down onto the Support Tube. In this position it cuts off the Mains Water so it cannot pass from Inlet to Outlet.

Are toilet cisterns interchangeable?

You can get them in different forms. For example, a one-piece toilet and a close coupled toilet have cisterns that are attached or sit just over the bowl. Over time the parts inside the cistern can get old or break and they are sometimes replaceable.

Are all toilet syphons the same?

They really actually all do the same job but operate slightly different. Most toilets are the same so it is just the mechanism’s that are different. Any siphon is just a valve that opens and drops the standing water into the toilet or pan.

Which way round does a diaphragm washer?

Normally the washer is fitted with the convex side facing the arm and float. The assembly at the other side of the valve body is valve cone facing inwards (pointy end in first) then washer (rubber should be ok) then rear body section. Thanks very much for that concise explanation.

What are toilet syphons?

A toilet siphon consists of a one-piece or two-piece unit that contains a pipe, pull handle and plastic flap valve or diaphragm on the bottom. The pull handle lifts the plastic flap valve and sends water into the toilet bowl.
