NIRS has been used to measure rSO2 in a variety of clinical conditions. In patients with SAH it is used during clipping of aneurysm, early detection of vasospasm. It is also used for managing head-injured patients, carotid endarterectomy, cardiac surgery during cardiopulmonary bypass.
