WHEN TO USE A or an?
A and an are two different forms of the same word: the indefinite article a that is used before noun phrases. Use a when the noun or adjective that comes next begins with a consonant sound. Use an when the noun or adjective that comes next begins with a vowel sound.
When an is used in a sentence?
The same rule still applies. “A” is used before words starting in consonant sounds and “an” is used before words starting with vowel sounds. It doesn’t matter if the word is an adjective, a noun, an adverb, or anything else; the rule is exactly the same.
What are the main uses of a an?
English has two articles: the and a/an. The is used to refer to specific or particular nouns; a/an is used to modify non-specific or non-particular nouns. We call the the definite article and a/an the indefinite article. For example, if I say, “Let’s read the book,” I mean a specific book.

Why we use an before vowels?
Use “an” before a slient or unsounded “h.” Because the “h” does not have any phonetic representation or audible sound, the sound that follows the article is a vowel; consequently, “an” is used. When “u” makes the same sound as the “y” in “you,” or “o” makes the same sound as “w” in “won,” then a is used.
Where do we put the?
Use “the” with any noun when the meaning is specific; for example, when the noun names the only one (or one) of a kind. Adam was the first man (the only ‘first man’). New York is the largest city in the United States (only one city can be ‘the largest’).
Can is be used with plural?
If the noun is singular, use is. If it is plural or there is more than one noun, use are. The cat is eating all of his food. The cats are eating all of their food.
